I often say that forests are way to complex systems for humans to understand and ‘master’. Forget pictures of human hands holding the planet. We’re not gardeners, we’re part of the system, and a destructive part too. We should henceforth accept nature, let alone primal forest, as complex societies that have their own million year old conversations going on. The best we can do is learn to listen to it. And make space to more of it can grow. As long as we understand that replanting forests is like replacing Venice with early Soviet Apartment blocks.
