That is a truly dark personal history. Sorry to hear that. And the previous peace treaties by Israel gave lots of hope. But your own trauma should not blind you to the trauma of others. By now everyone in the Middle East is traumatized. Iran had a dictator installed by the US, who hunted down all socialists, so religion became the focus point of resistance.. Then Iran fought an ugly war against Iraq, which was backed by the US, then the US killed off Saddam and surrounded Iran with military bases. So they too feel threatened from all sides, and like many smaller states use sneaky tactics against stronger powers. As do de Palestinians, looking up to a wall of a mighty military power backed bu the USA, so they too feel threatened, etc, etc. Bombing for peace never worked, I think.

I was raised very anti German, as the nazis burned down my grandparents house because they had jews, resistance fighters and some German deserters in hiding. Also one grandfather died in a concentration camp. And then my youngest sister married a German. That made me face my upbringing. We all know Germany changed a lot, and even then neo nazis stalk the streets, now hating jews and foreigners of any colour and religion other than theirs. Still the Marshall plan and the facing of their trauma, helped heal a lot of wounds. I know some young Germans who are still deeply ashamed of their dark past. I think that is hopeful.

I'm sorry about your past, and Israel has all rights to defend and be guarded against enemies. But I wonder how much your trauma, as I wrote, still also creates a paranoia, making it hard to show empathy to all ordinary Palestinians caught in the cross fire of 'leaders of both sides' fighting over territory. They too are people with feelings. They too are traumatized by decades of losing ground, living in refugee camps, being bombed, losing children etc. So, when everyone is traumatized and feels legitimized to act against the other, with open or sneaky violence, each side calling it self protection and the other the culprit, then how is peace possible? What tactic would help, that the other side could also see as helpful? That is a question too few try, I think. But then I don't know. I'm only a foreigner.
